Funicolare di Montecatini

The funicular railroad that connects Montecatini Terme to Montecatini Alto started its service in 1898, according to its official web site. Although it was seriously damaged during WWII, the railroad was restored and today continues to chug between the two towns daily between March and October.

To get to the funicolare from our hotel requires a walk of about three quarters of a mile, which you can see on this map:

  1. The schedule stated that it ran from March to October --- I couldn't find whether that was October 1 or October 31st? Do you know?

  2. I read it as the beginning of March through the end of October ... but that assumption led to quite a discussion with a family member, who read it as through October 1. I'm assuming that if it stops running at the end of September, they would have said September. Why bother mentioning the month at all for one day?

The last time I was in Montecatini it was February, and it was not running then. Factual, but no help whatsoever, I'm afraid.

  3. I heard back from my contact at the hotel, who confirmed that the funicolare will be open while we are in Montecatini Terme. It will run between 9:30 AM until midnight, with a break between 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM.
