Cinque Terre Background

On Wednesday of our week in Tuscany, we'll be going to the area known as Cinque Terre, the five lands. Located on the Ligurian Sea, and specifically on the Gulf of the Poets (Golfo dei Poeti), the area is known for its villages (Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, and Monterosso) and the stunning pathways and trails that connect them, especially the Via dell'Amore, the "Path of Love", between Riomaggiore and Manarola.

  1. When will the bus leave the hotel and when will it leave Cinque Terre? We are considering some alternatives

  2. I don't have specific times for each day, but in general the tours leave the hotel after breakfast, so I'd guess around 9 AM, and return before dinner. It takes a little more than an hour to get from the hotel to La Spezia, where we'll be boarding a boat to Riomaggiore (assuming the weather cooperates). There will be a tour, then some time for hiking/shopping/lunch, before returning to the hotel late in the afternoon.

  3. Now I do have specific times. We'll leave the hotel at 7:30 AM and drive to LaSpezia. We should arrive there around 9:00 AM and board a boat to Cinque Terre. Although the notes the agency sent don't say which of the five towns the boat will drop us off at, I'd guess it will be Riomaggiore, the southernmost town. That would allow us to walk the "Path of Love" (Via dell'Amore), which goes from Riomaggiore to Manarola.
