Arrival in Italy
Our first flight is scheduled to land at Rome's international airport, known by both its location (Fiumicino) as well as its name (Leonardo da Vinci), but usually referred to as Roma Fiumicino.
If our flight is on time, we will have more than two hours between flights (we are scheduled to arrive at 7:25 AM, and depart for Pisa at 9:50 AM).
After leaving the plane, we will take a tram ride from the satellite gates (seen in the foreground of the picture above) to the main building (like you do in the Orlando and Tampa airports) and wait on line to go through Passport Control.
After clearing Passport Control, we'll follow signs that say either "transiti" (transfers) or "passeggeri in transito" (passengers in transit) and walk from Terminal 3 to Terminal 1, from which our next flight will depart.
Most of the walk is through an airport shopping mall. The airport shopping guide can be found here: http://www.romeairportshoppingallery.com/index.php?lng=2
For those who will be looking to get Euros, along the way we will pass by eight ATM machines (called "Bancomat" in Italian). Look for this sign to identify them:
For those who like maps, you can download PDF files of the airport maps here: http://www.adr.it/portal/portal/adr/Fiumicino/Servizi/Mappa_Terminal_FCO
